Microbial Ecology and Hg Cycling at Fayetteville Green Lake

Meromictic lakes are classic systems for studying microbial diversity over a range of static redox conditions. In this collaboration with Syracuse University, we seek to better understand how microbial communities convert mercury to more or less toxic forms and which community members are primarily responsible. The project includes metagenomics and metatranscriptomics (Phase 1) followed-up with CARD-FISH and qPCR (Phase 2).
